Our Balsam Copaiba Essential Oil is organically crafted and steam-distilled from the rich, amber-coloured resin of Copaifera officinalis, a tropical evergreen tree growing deep within the Brazilian rainforest. Often referred to as Copaiba Balsam or Copal, these impressive, densely branched trees belong to a family of more than 35 Copaifera species found throughout South America, including Copaifera officinalis, Copaifera langsdorffii, and Copaifera reticulata.
Copaiba resin is renowned for its high content of sesquiterpene and diterpene hydrocarbons, particularly beta-caryophyllene, which contributes to its warm, balsamic aroma and grounding therapeutic profile. While relatively new to global markets, Copaiba has been used for centuries by Indigenous communities throughout the Amazon and neighbouring regions. Traditionally, warriors would apply the raw resin to the skin after conflict, and the oil was relied upon for a vast range of wellness practices.
