Our organically crafted Tonka Bean Absolute is derived from the seeds of Dipteryx odorata—also known as Cumaru or Kumaru—a towering tropical tree native to Central and South America. With its rich, caramel-like, powdery sweetness, Tonka Bean Absolute is prized in perfumery for its exceptional depth and ability to fix and enhance natural fragrance blends. Its aroma evokes warm notes of caramel, almond, and vanilla.
Between February and April, the ripe fruit naturally falls from the trees. After collection, the hard shell is removed to reveal the beans, which are then dried for several days before extraction begins. We source our Tonka beans from Brazil, working closely with Amazonian communities and local NGOs to ensure ethical and sustainable harvesting practices.
Tonka beans are renowned for their naturally high coumarin content—a fragrant compound first discovered in this very plant. Coumarin’s soft, inviting scent is what places Tonka Bean Absolute firmly within the beloved “gourmand” family of fragrances.
