Description
Peru Balsam essential oil is co-distilled from the resin of the Myroxylon balsamum tree. It has a rich, warm, sweet aroma with a soft vanilla character, and acts as a lingering base note that rounds out and holds a blend.
Its comforting aroma is traditionally associated in aromatherapy with relaxation and easing nervous tension, and it is especially popular in the cooler months for its cosy, enveloping warmth. As a base note it adds depth and staying power to blends with florals, woods and resins. It is a strong skin sensitiser, so always use it well diluted and patch test first.

Uses
- Diffuser or vaporiserAdd 2–4 drops to your diffuser or oil burner with water for a warm, comforting room aroma, on its own or blended with florals and citrus.
- BathMix 2–3 drops into a tablespoon of carrier oil or unscented bath base first, then add it to a warm bath. Never add undiluted essential oil to bath water.
- Massage and aromatherapyIf you use it in massage, aromatherapy or other skin applications, always dilute it in a carrier oil and keep it to a low level (around 0.5–1%, roughly 3–6 drops per 30ml). Patch test first.

Safety & storage
- For external use only. Do not take internally.
- Never apply undiluted to the skin. Always dilute in a carrier oil.
- Peru Balsam is one of the most common fragrance allergens. Patch test the diluted blend on a small area for 24 hours before full use, and avoid it altogether if you have a known fragrance or Balsam of Peru allergy.
- Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use on broken or irritated skin.
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for babies and young children, unless advised by a qualified practitioner.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Storage: Store tightly capped in the original dark glass bottle, away from heat and direct sunlight.
