Description

Spikenard essential oil is steam distilled from the rhizomes and roots of Nardostachys jatamansi, sourced from Nepal. It is a greenish yellow to amber brown oil with a sweet, resinous, damp-earth aroma and a mellow spicy edge, and has been valued for centuries as a deep, long-lasting base note.

In aromatherapy it is prized for its grounding, calming character, and is traditionally associated with relaxation, meditation and easing everyday tension. It adds richness and staying power to blends with florals, resins and woods. Spikenard is a protected species (CITES Appendix II), so treat it as a precious oil and use it sparingly.
